No arrests have been made in a weekend shooting that left a 15 year old boy dead. The shooting took place Saturday night. .  The assault happened at a graduation party at Bollinger Playground on the city’s west side, where three teen boys were shot and one of them died.  That victim has been identified as 15-year-old Damian Jackson. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has signed a disaster declaration hoping to rebuild Interstate 95 as soon as possible.  A portion of the highway collapsed Sunday after a tanker truck exploded beneath it. The declaration will send 7 million dollars to PEMA and cuts red tape for other agencies like Pennsylvania State Police and PennDOT.  About 170 thousand vehicles travel the roadway daily.

Testimony continues to be heard in the trial of Robert Bowers.  Bowers is accused of gunning down 11 people in October of 2018 at the Tree of Life synagogue in Squirrel Hill.  On Monday, jurors heard more testimony about firearms and ammunition collected at the scene and heard testimony about Bowers’ activity on the social media site Gad prior to the mass shooting.  A computer expert told the court that Bowers followed a number of accounts where the users had anti-Semitic names and that accounts with such usernames followed him. 

A young child is in the hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Beaver County.  Police say the incident happened around 8 a.m. Monday morning along Oak Lane in Monaca.  The child was transported to the hospital via ambulance, but police have not released any other information at this time.

According to this week’s Triple-A East Central Gas Price report gas prices are a penny lower in Western Pennsylvania this week at $3.65 a gallon.  In New Castle drivers are paying 3.50 a gallon while the average price in Sharon is 3.49.  The national average for a gallon of gas dipped a penny since last week to $3.56, which is three cents more than a month ago but $1.39 less than a year ago.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry is warning renters to look out for a new scam.  Henry says her office has seen individuals posting real estate rental listings with photos of actual properties in the hopes of stealing personal information from those who are looking for a place to live.  She says finding and looking at the actual property prior to any exchange of money can help make sure a listing is legitimate.  She adds that reputable property owners would not ask for gift cards or wire transfers when collecting rent or security deposit payments.

The Ellwood City Area School Board has adopted it’s 2023-2024 budget that includes a tax increase. According to the New Castle News the budget calls for the millage rate to increase from 17.54 to 18.55. Revenues are listed as $30.7 million and expenditures at $34.5 million. The district will balance the budget with $3.8 million from its savings.  

The professional pilot program at the Community College of Beaver County is growing.  The program, aimed at helping to prepare students for careers in the aviation industry, will offer online courses to students at ten flight schools in Pennsylvania with eight of those here in the Western part of the state.  More info can be found on the CCBC website.
