New Castle City Police have identified the driver of a vehicle which struck a 9-year-old boy in Taylor Township.  According to the department’s Facebook page,  The driver is a 17-year-old juvenile. Charges are being filed against the 17-year-old. The accident took place Friday night around 7:15 on 13th street.  The child sustained minor injuries.

State police are investigating after a man who was tased by Monaca police died soon after.  Police say they found Keenan Anderson damaging homes and vehicles along Front Street early Saturday morning.  During a confrontation with Anderson, police say they had to tase him.  Anderson later went into cardiac arrest and died.

State Police in Mercer County report a man was intentionally struck by a vehicle that was driving by his sister. 63 year old Cindy Jo Field of Meadville was arrested last week on the 300 block of Wise Road in West Salem Township after police say she drove the SUV erratically around a yard, intentionally running into her 69-year-old brother. The report says the brother was injured but does not give information about the nature of his injuries or condition. Field arraigned on two counts of aggravated assault, one count of simple assault, and harassment, is free on $5,000 bond pending another court hearing on August 1.

The final phase of the trial for convicted Tree of Life synagogue shooter Robert Bowers is getting underway today.  Jurors will decide whether he will be put to death for killing eleven worshippers and injuring others in October of 2018.  Last week, the jury deliberated for less than two hours before deciding that Bowers had intent to kill when he carried out the shooting, making him eligible for capital punishment.  Prosecutors say they will likely take about two-and-a-half days to present arguments in favor of a death sentence.  Defense attorneys say they will spend five to seven days going over mitigating evidence.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is issuing a Code Orange air quality alert for the entire state.  The advisory comes as smoke from Canadian wildfires is once again being carried into the region, increasing the level of fine particulate matter in the atmosphere.  Sensitive individuals like older adults, young children, and those suffering from respiratory diseases should not spend a lot of time outdoors. 

The Powerball jackpot is getting closer to a billion dollars.  The estimated top prize is now up to nine-hundred-million, the third-largest jackpot in the game’s history.  No one has taken home the max payout since an Ohio lottery player won just over two-hundred-50-million on April 19th.  The next drawing is tonight

Two health centers in Pittsburgh are in the running to be named one of America’s most beautiful hospitals.  The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh and UPMC Children’s are nominees in the annual contest hosted by Soliant healthcare staffing.  The winning facility’s charitable foundation will receive five-thousand dollars.  Voting runs through July 27th at Soliant-dot-com.

– A 23-year-old male was injured Saturday morning in an explosion in Fayette County.  The incident happened at around 1 a.m. near Layton Road.  Few details have been released about the blast that is being described as accidental.  There has been no word on the extent of the victim’s injuries.
