Man Killed in Bicycle Accident
Girard – Authorities are not charging a driver involved in a crash that killed a 65-year-old man on a bicycle in Erie County. On Thursday, Gheorghe Popa suffered fatal injuries when he was hit while riding a bicycle on West Ridge Road in Girard. According to several eyewitnesses, he was riding a motorized bike along the right shoulder of the roadway and very suddenly made a 90 degree turn toward the left side of the road without signaling or yielding and was hit by a motorist. Mr. Popa was not wearing safety gear and succumbed to his injuries at the crash scene.


House Explodes Outside Pittsburgh
Plum – On Saturday morning a house exploded in the Pittsburgh Suburb of Plum, killing five and injuring three more. Debris from the explosion and resultant fire burned down two surrounding houses and damaged several more. At press time investigators still have not discovered a cause for the explosion and have only identified two victims, the remaining three may need to be identified by DNA and dental records.

Nightmare Neighbor
Franklin – Last Friday a Franklin man was arraigned on several charges after allegedly threatening and harassing his neighbors in July. Terry Anderson (67) of Franklin was charged with open lewdness, disorderly conduct, trespassing, harassment, and terroristic threats after being accused of confronting his neighbors while they were gardening; according to the criminal complaint Anderson entered his neighbors yard and began shouting vulgar and threatening things at them and grabbing at his genitals. Court records show a man by his name has been charged several times for harassment and public disturbances in the past.

CPS Yearly Report Published
Harrisburg – Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Resources released its annual Child Protective Services Report on Monday. The 176-page document outlines the efforts by CPS to protect children from abuse and neglect in 2022. According to the report, there were about 1,000 more reported cases of child abuse than the previous year and 60 children died as a result of abuse and neglect, all 60 of them by perpetrators known to their county Children and Youth Agencies.
