Meadville – Tonight is Trick-or-Treat Night in Meadville and the majority of Crawford County from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The City of Meadville plans Trick-or-Treat for the Thursday before the Halloween Parade which happens on the last Saturday of October. PA Sues Meta
Harrisburg – Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Michelle Henry announced on Tuesday that the Commonwealth has joined in a multistate federal lawsuit against Facebook’s parent company Meta. Pennsylvania and 32 other states allege that Meta’s business practices encourage a mental health crisis among young adults and teenagers across the United States. They also allege that Meta is knowingly collecting and selling the data of users younger than 13 years of age in violation of Federal law.
According to the suit, Meta is deliberately shaping its algorithms to keep users, especially children, teenagers, and young adults, addicted to and engaged with their websites and applications such as Facebook and Instagram. AG Henry says these addictive applications are knowingly undermining the physical and mental health of young adults by undermining their ability to get adequate sleep, but Meta did not disclose this, nor make adequate changes to address the problem. “Meta has preyed on the vulnerability of young users seeking validation and approval from peers It has resulted in challenges with body image, self-worth, and a skewed sense of what is normal in the world offline,” says Henry.
