I-80 Pile-up Results in One Killed
E. Lackowannock Twp. – Yesterday, a fatal crash in Mercer County closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 between Mercer and Newcastle for more than 10 hours. Road conditions are being blamed for a 10-vehicle pileup at about 5:45 a.m. yesterday.  First responders and investigators on the scene say that several passenger vehicles and tractor-trailers were involved in the crash and several more vehicles suffered minor crashes attempting to avoid the pileup. One person was killed, he was identified by the Mercer County Coroner as 34-year-old Anthony Mallory of Rochester, New York; six other people were reported as injured. Interstate 80 was clear enough to be re-opened shortly after 4 p.m.

Commonwealth Court Rules Against RGGI Plans
Harrisburg – Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Court has ruled that it would be a violation of the State Constitution to become a member of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) without approval from the legislature. According to the court, the RGGI is essentially a tax and cap carbon initiative that includes nearly every state in the Northeast except for Pennsylvania. Former Governor Tom Wolf attempted to join the RGGI through an executive order telling the Department of Environmental Protection to create new regulations pursuant to the RGGI and the court determined joining the initiative in that manner would entail creating a new tax without passing a new law to create it, violating the PA Constitution. It is unclear whether Governor Josh Shapiro will appeal.

Stuff the Cruiser with Toys for Tots
Erie – The Pennsylvania State Police in Erie will hold their annual ‘Stuff the Cruiser’ event to benefit Toys for Tots on Saturday, November 4th from noon until 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Wal-Mart in Summit Township. PSP Erie and the United States Marine Corps have teamed up every year for eight years for the annual toy drive and participants have donated thousands of non-violent toys to needy families through Toys for Tots. This year’s toy drive will include a special early-season visit from Santa Claus as well as costumed characters, face painting, and glitter tattoos for children.

Equitrans Charged for 2018 Explosion
Waynesburg – Pennsylvania’s Attorney General, Michelle Henry, announced criminal charges against the Natural Gas company Equitrans related to a 2018 explosion that injured three people in Greene County. Charges of discharging industrial waste, failure to contain pollution, and two counts of violating the Clean Streams Law have been filed against Equitrans after the Greene County District Attorney turned an investigation over to the state.
