Crash Injures Several People/Click-It or Ticket
Grove City – Five of six members of a family were hospitalized after a collision between a pickup truck and an SUV at the intersection of Centertown and Gilmore roads in Wolf Creek Township, Mercer County. Crash scene investigators say the driver of a pickup entered the intersection when it was unsafe to do so and was hit by the SUV at speed on its passenger side. A stop sign that was posted on Gilmore Road was knocked down and not visible to the pickup’s driver, according to the investigators. In the SUV a 17-year-old driver, 51-year-old woman, and three children were taken to a hospital in Grove City for the treatment and evaluation of injuries.
The Holiday Season can be a dangerous time to drive and requires vigilance, with lots of vehicles on the roads as people travel to see friends and loved ones. Holiday celebrants may be traveling through unfamiliar territory and unusual levels of traffic. Northwest Pennsylvania saw 592 crashes, which led to 259 injuries and eight deaths between the Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve holidays last year. During the Thanksgiving Holiday, state and local police will be on patrol in a highly visible manner, performing DUI checkpoints, and enforcing seatbelt compliance as part of Click-It or Ticket.
Meadville’s Giving Tree
Meadville – On Tuesday the City of Meadville set up its giving tree for the 2023 Holiday Season. The tree resides near the Meadville Police Department close to the corner of North Cottage and West Center streets in Downtown Meadville. The tree is stocked with bags containing hats, scarves, and mittens for anyone who may need them in the cold weather, but you should only take one bag per person to help as many people as possible. If you wish to make donations of toiletries, warm socks, hats, mittens, gloves, or scarves please just drop them off at the dispatch desk inside the police station.
Silver Cornet Band’s Pops Concert
Franklin – On Friday night at 7:30 p.m., the Silver Cornet Band will perform its yearly after Thanksgiving concert at the Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin. There are no tickets sold for this holiday concert, the cost of entry is a non-perishable item of food to be donated to local food banks. The Silver Cornet band was founded in 1856 and is one of the oldest volunteer community bands in the United States, this year’s performance features Peter and the Wolf, the music of Paul Simon, and some Christmas tunes to set the holiday mood.
