Baby Hospitalized After Car Crash
Venengo – Earlier this week police released information about a late November crash that injured three people including a baby on Interstate 79 in northern Crawford County. The day after Thanksgiving the trio from New York state including a 77-year-old and 28-year-old woman and a newborn baby girl were traveling along the interstate through Cussewago Township when the driver lost control of her Lincoln MKX at around 2 p.m. The vehicle exited the highway, hit an embankment, and came to rest on its roof about 200 feet from the initial impact. All three occupants of the vehicle were transported to UPMC Hamot for suspected serious injuries, the younger woman was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash, and the baby was in an improperly secured car seat.

Card Draining in PA
Harrisburg – Pennsylvania’s Attorney General, Michelle Henry, warned consumers about card draining, which has become one of the most popular scams this Holiday season. Criminals are recording the information from gift cards before they are sold and then using it to steal the gift cards’ balances after purchase. Target, Amazon, Visa Vanilla, and iTunes gift cards have been particularly popular marks for this scam with hundreds of gift cards stolen in this manner in Buck’s County earlier this month. Anyone who has fallen victim to this scam is urged to contact the Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection by visiting the website, by emailing scams@attorneygeneral.gov, or by calling the office at (1-800)441-2555.
Experts recommend that the best ways to protect against the scam are either not buying gift cards, only buying cards from behind the checkout counter, and enclosing a receipt with purchased gift cards so the balances can be reclaimed. It is also recommended that consumers check the packaging of any gift cards to make sure they have not been tampered with and to bring any suspected tampering to the attention of store management.
