Meadville Takes over Vernon Township Police
Meadville – On Monday the City of Meadville Police Department officially took over law enforcement duties in Crawford County’s Vernon Township. In October the two neighboring municipalities finalized a contract for the full-time police force from Meadville to take over patrolling Vernon Township, inheriting the job that was performed by a part-time local police force and the Pennsylvania State Police. Meadville’s Police Department is a full-time force that is staffed 24/7 and can be reached any time of day or night by calling their non-emergency number at (814)724-6100 or 911 in an emergency.
Hershey’s Sued for False Advertising
Del-Ray, FL – A Florida woman has filed a class action lawsuit against The Hershey Company alleging false advertising because the specialty holiday products do not match their image with the carved-out artistic designs on the packaging. Cynthia Kelly has enlisted Del-Ray Florida based attorney Anthony Russo Jr. who has filed similar false advertising suits in the past against companies like Burger King, Wendy’s, and McDonald’s. Russo’s client seeks a class action suit for $5 million alleging that Hershey’s Reese’s Peanut Butter products have engaged in unfair and deceptive trade practices for falsely advertising carved-out artistic designs on an assortment of products such as Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins, Ghosts, Bats, Footballs, and assorted Christmas shapes in both milk and white chocolate varieties.
Millcreek Township Supervisor on Administrative Leave
Erie – The treasurer of Millcreek Township in Erie County has been put on administrative leave, at press time Township Supervisors have not revealed the reason for this. The supervisors of Millcreek Township voted 2-1 on Tuesday morning to set aside a motion to rehire Mark Zaksheske as the treasurer until next Tuesday, January 9th. No supervisor would comment on the reason other than to say it was personal and the township auditor said they would limit their comments because of the potential for litigation.
Identity of Man Who Cause Crash Revealed
Hermitage – Mercer County’s Coroner John Libonati revealed the identity of a man who died and caused a three car pile-up in Hermitage on Tuesday. On Thursday morning his office revealed that the man was 75-year-old David Chill of New Castle; who had a heart attack while driving through town on Tuesday. Mr. Chill was apparently already dead when his vehicle crossed the center line of Route 18 in Hermitage and collided with two other vehicles; the drivers of both those vehicles had to be airlifted to hospitals in other areas.
