Dakota Hughes Trial
Eu Claire – The trial of a Butler County man accused of murdering his mother’s boyfriend begins today. 23-year-old Dakota Hughes shot and killed his mother’s boyfriend in the village of Eu Claire in early March last year; he shot the man three times in the chest during a confrontation in the kitchen of his mother’s home. Hughes does not deny the shooting, he and his defense counsel are claiming it was an act of self-defense and he called the police to report the shooting on his own. Authorities do not agree, they believe the act was premeditated and he has spent the last year in Butler County Jail.
Durable Medical Equipment Drive in Meadville
Meadville – This Saturday, February 17th, Meadville’s Free Clinic is holding a Durable Medical Equipment Drive from 9 a.m. until noon. During the drive, they will be accepting gently used medical equipment at their location on 505 Poplar Street. Donated equipment will be passed on to your neighbors who lack insurance or cannot afford it. Volunteers will gladly retrieve donations of reusable medical equipment like shower chairs, crutches, and wheelchairs without you ever having to leave your car. Woman Charged for Helping Men Kill Boyfriend
Norristown – In state news, a Montgomery County woman has been implicated in the January 20th robbery and murder of her boyfriend; police say she guided the men who robbed and killed him to his location. Katherine Emel has been charged with murder in the second degree, robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery in the death of her boyfriend William Carter. William had recently won a $3,000 prize and police say that Emel gave his location information from an Airtag to four other suspects who then robbed and killed him while he was visiting his son in Norristown.
