Memorial Day Slaying
Russel – The Pennsylvania State Police have charged 62-year-old  Mark E. Saullo in the Memorial Day slaying of another man during an argument. According to investigators Saullo shot and killed his neighbor Kieth Haskins during an argument late Monday night in the Warren County town of Russel. The two men had been in a long-running argument about a vehicle title and Saullo decided to settle it with a firearm. He remains in Warren County Prison after being denied bail.

Realty Building Explosion
Youngstown – A Tuesday afternoon explosion at a Chase Bank in Youngstown Ohio is the cause for the death of one man and the injury of several other people. An apparent natural gas leak caused the explosion at the 12-story tall Realty Building on Federal Street in Downtown Youngstown destroying the basement and first floor while injuring seven and killing one other; a 27-year-old employee of the bank named Akil Drake. On Wednesday the National Transportation Safety Board joined with the Ohio Fire Marshal to investigate the explosion.

Motorcycles Collide in Venango County
Kennerdell – A man and a woman were injured when two motorcycles collided with each other in Venango County’s Scrubgrass Township. Two men from Ellwood City and a Saxonburg woman were riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles on Lisbon Road in a staggered formation when crash scene investigators say the trailing bike nudged the lead rider while making a left turn which caused both riders to lose their balance. The motorcycles laid on their sides and slid off the roadway, injuring the trailing rider and his passenger, who was taken to Grove City Hospital for treatment of injuries.

756 Crashes, Six Deaths Over Memorial Weekend
Harrisburg – The Pennsylvania State Police released their statistics from Memorial Day Weekend, providing details on crashes and traffic stops they responded to. According to the PSP from Friday, May 24th until midnight on Tuesday, May 28th there were 105 more crashes than last year, they responded to 756 traffic accidents that hospitalized 181 people; five were fatal crashes that killed a total of six people; one of those fatal crashes involved a DUI driver. Despite the increase in accidents, they reported significantly fewer traffic stops and citations for DUI and all other categories. You can see the full press release here.
