Man Charged in Death of Son
Corry – A Corry man was charged with homicide in the death of his own son on Sunday night. 72-year-old Gary Hulihan was arrested by the Pennsylvania State Police for the death of his son Patrick after the two men had an altercation; during the altercation, Hulihan shot his son in the abdomen with a .40 caliber pistol. After the shooting, Hulihan drove the victim to Corry Memorial Hospital where he was declared dead by hospital staff. On Monday he was denied bail and remains in Erie County Jail.

Company Moving HQ to Meadville
Meadville – SECO/VACUUM, a long-time manufacturer of vacuum furnaces in Meadville Pennsylvania, has announced that it will be relocating its international Headquarters to Meadville from the nation of Poland. The move comes with a more than $4 million investment into SECO/VACUUM’s Crawford County manufactory on Technology Drive. Part of the money will come from the state through a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Grant with the remainder coming from the company, the move will nearly double the company’s current workforce in Meadville.

Man Assaults Toddler at Fairgrounds
Butler – A Butler man was arrested for physically assaulting a toddler at the Butler Farm Show on Friday. Multiple witnesses told police that 43-year-old Gary Fend, Jr. slapped his son, a 3-year-old toddler, multiple times in the face before tossing him into his stroller with enough force to cause it to collapse. The child’s condition was worrying enough that they were taken to a hospital for evaluation. Fend has been charged with endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, and harassment.

West Nile Virus Detected in Region
NWPA – More mosquitoes infected with Jamestown Canyon Virus and now West Nile Virus have been detected in Northwest Pennsylvania. The Erie County Department of Health reports that mosquitoes tested in Waterford and Millcreek Townships tested positive for Jamestown Canyon Virus and that Millcreek Mosquitoes also tested positive for West Nile. In Mercer County, West Nile Virus was detected in Mosquitoes sampled from Grove City. Both departments recommend using insect repellent when outdoors and ensuring the area around your home is free of standing water where mosquitoes breed as the best ways to avoid infections.
