Kayaker Goes Missing on Allegheny River
Tidioute – A rescue operation for a capsized kayaker on the Allegheny River has turned into a recovery attempt. In Warren County, just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday over 100 workers and volunteers gathered for the attempted rescue of a 21-year-old man who capsized while kayaking near Tidioute. Unfortunately, dangerous conditions caused the effort to have to be abandoned by 7 p.m. The conditions of the river on Tuesday night were deadly, with water temperatures of 34 degrees and 10-50 foot ice flows on fast-moving currents. At press time the identity of the missing kayaker has not been revealed.
Man Captured with Hundreds of Bricks of Fentanyl
Clairton – A convicted felon from Westmoreland County was arrested last week in Western Pennsylvania with multiple firearms, crack cocaine, and an obscene amount of fentanyl. Ismail Hamlan of Clairton was arraigned last Friday for a multitude of crimes after his arrest – the Attorney General says Clairton was in possession of three AR-15 style rifles, one of them a ghost gun; as well as multiple handguns, some with obliterated serial numbers; 92 grams of crack cocaine; and nearly 480 bricks of fentanyl, some of it already packaged for sale. Hamlan was denied bail during his arraignment and is considered a risk to the public. A young child found in Hamlan’s residence is under the care of Social Services.
