New Facility May be County’s Biggest Employer
Mercer – The Mercer County Commissioners have made preliminary approval for a new package sorting facility in East Lackawannock Township. The 930,000 square foot facility, which is still in its proposal stage, would be constructed on a 200-acre site currently owned by Mercer County near the intersection of Interstate 80 and Route 19 and is anticipated to require as many as 900 workers per shift, which could make it the County’s biggest single employer. The commission has not stated which shipping company made the offer, but expects the project to be underway in November.
