Meadville Memorial Day Schedule
Meadville – The Meadville Area Memorial Day Observance Committee has released the details for this year’s parade and solemn observance. This year’s parade theme is “The Ultimate Sacrifice for our Freedom 1775 to 1975”; it will follow the usual route on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26th, starting at 9:30 and should last about an hour. The Parade will be followed by a pre-recorded reading of the names of 375 fallen Crawford Countians who died in service to the nation. The Diamond Park will be closed to traffic from 9 a.m. until around noon for the parade and the solemn observance that follows.
This year’s parade Marshall and speaker is 1st Lieutenant Ben Meure, a graduate of Meadville High School who went on to West Point to become an officer in the US Army. A special attendee of the parade and ceremony is Denis Queva, the now retired city controller of Meadville’s partner city, Fismes in France. The bond between the two cities was forged in the crucible of World War I, when soldiers from Crawford County led the battle to liberate Fismes from the Germans in 1918. The entire event will be broadcast on the air on our radio station Rocky 94.3 and 107.7.
