1825 Presents Crawford County Politics
Meadville – Did you know that Crawford County’s first courthouse was a log cabin structure built on the west side of the diamond in 1805 at the approximate spot of today’s Meadville City Building? The town where this 35 square foot Courthouse was built was rechristened from Lewisburgh to Meadville in honor of its founder, David Meade. Within 20 years, the thriving county had outgrown its log cabin courthouse, and construction of a new brick and mortar courthouse was underway; in modern times, Crawford County is on its third courthouse. If you would like to know more, join Meadville 1825 at the modern courthouse this Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. for a guided tour of the building and a 200-year history of the governance of Crawford County hosted by County Commissioner Christopher Seely. We hope to see you there.
