US Steel Releases Explosion Explanation
Clairton – In State News, investigators have released preliminary findings about the cause of an explosion that killed two people in Clairton last Monday. US Steel released information pointing toward a buildup of pressure in a gas valve that may have caused the explosion. If the gas valve failed and began leaking gas into the plant, it would have exploded when it found a source of ignition, according to the company. Last Monday’s explosion killed two men, Timothy Quinn and Steven Menefee, and of the 10 others hospitalized after the blast, only two remained in care as of press time. The investigation into the explosion is still being conducted by US Steel and government regulators, and these findings are nor final results.
