Woman injures head in crash
Sugarcreek – A woman was hospitalized after losing control of her vehicle in Sugarcreek last Friday. Crash scene investigators for the Pennsylvania State Police say that 55-year-old Cassandra Kinnear of Titusville was sent to UPMC Northwest and then UPMC Hamot with head injuries after her vehicle sped into a utility pole along Rocky Grove Avenue. At the time of the press release, they did not know what caused the loss of control.

Fire Commissioner Approves mass grants for NWPA
Northwest PA –Hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant money has been awarded to fire, EMS, and other rescue companies across the region. The money was awarded through the Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program which is overseen by the State Fire Commissioner. Grant amounts awarded in our region ranged from $9,500 to $15,000.

Reactions to court’s education ruling
Harrisburg – On Tuesday a Commonwealth Court Judge ruled that Pennsylvania’s current school funding system is in violation of the commonwealth’s constitution. The judge’s ruling asserts that the current education system discriminates against students in poor and rural districts. The Pennsylvania Association of Rural and Small Schools is one of the plaintiffs in the case, its Director Dr. Edward Albert remarked that he is optimistic about the ruling and hopes this will lead to the state giving adequate and fair funding to schools in every part of Pennsylvania. House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler was less enthusiastic about the ruling, saying that he was disappointed, but not surprised, by the decision from a state judiciary he says identifies itself as a legislature.
It took 10 years for a judge to make a ruling on the case and the decision will almost certainly be appealed to the PA Supreme Court.
