Commonwealth Court shuts down Voter Records Subpoena
Harrisburg – The Commonwealth Court ruled against a lawsuit by the Senate Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, saying that the Senate has no legal rationale for wanting to review the confidential information of every registered voter in the state. Last year the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee requested that the PA Department of State hand over all information, including driver’s license and social security numbers for all 9 million registered voters in the state, and cited concerns about the 2020 election as their reason. The Department of State resisted, resulting in a Commonwealth Court battle. The case was argued last September with the three-panel judges’ ruling finally coming last Thursday.
