$1.5 Million in LSA Money Awarded in Venango County
Venango County – Multiple municipalities in Venango County have been awarded a total of more than $1.5 million through the Local Share Account Program, which is funded by revenue earned on gaming taxes. The single largest award was for Emlenton Borough which was given $400,000 for improvements to Hughes Park. Oil City was awarded the most grants, totaling more than $486,000 for three separate projects; renovations of the Lyric Theater and Oil City National Bank buildings, and the purchase of a dump truck. Franklin was awarded $200,000 to renovate Public Hall, Frenchcreek was given funding for a dump truck, Polk for sewer upgrades, Victory Township for road fixing equipment, and Venango County itself to maintain Two-Mile Run County Park.
State News: Dubois City Manager Arrested
Dubois – The city manager of Dubois has been arrested by the Pennsylvania State Police. John Suplizio, known by the nickname ‘Herm’, has been charged with a multitude of felonies for allegedly using more than $620,000 of funds from the City of DuBois and DuBois area United Way for personal expenses, including for credit cards, gambling, and political donations. Suplizio also allegedly falsified tax returns by claiming many of these expenditures as unreimbursed expenses. He was arraigned yesterday on 15 charges including six felonies; five counts of theft by unlawful taking, and one count of conflicts of interest for allegedly accepting bribes. Suplizio is currently free after paying $100,000 bail.
