Tax season is scam season
Tax Season is also a time of year when scammers attempt to convince people to divulge personal information or to pay them money under the guise of being from the IRS or state revenue departments; scammers may also try to pose as a law enforcement agency to demand payments for non-existent fines or perpetrate one of the aforementioned crimes. This is a yearly reminder that no tax or law enforcement agency will demand payments for taxes or fines over the phone, they will also not threaten you with arrest or sanction for failure to pay, they will not solicit your social security number, nor demand gift cards of any sort. If you suspect a scam, discontinue contact immediately and contact law enforcement, and be vigilant for scammers targeting your friends and family.

PA House Fails to Pass key Amendment
Harrisburg – Dysfunction in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives has made a victim of the chamber’s supposed main goal for the month of January. Yesterday was the deadline for a proposed constitutional amendment to help victims of childhood sexual abuse to be approved by the PA House in order to appear on the May primary ballot. The dysfunction in the General Assembly’s lower chamber has lasted for nearly a month as Republicans and Democrats have failed to agree on rules for this year’s session, or even commit to which party holds a majority of seats.
The amendment would provide a two year window in which victims of childhood sexual assault could sue their abusers even if the statute of limitations had passed on their crimes. Child USA CEO Marci Hamilton suggests that PA should follow the lead of 24 other states that took similar measures and just pass a law as opposed to going through the amendment process.
