Homestead/Farmstead Tax Exemptions Due March 1st
Pennsylvania – Farmers, you have less than one week to submit your homestead/farmstead tax exclusion applications to your County Assessor’s office. Your application must be mailed or hand delivered to the Assessor by no later than March 1st. The homestead/farmstead exclusion is a property tax credit for individuals and families who generate income from farming the land at their primary residence and does not apply for commercial and rental properties. Anyone who did not receive a homestead/farmstead tax exclusion application in October last year and was not already enrolled will need to go in person to the Assessor and provide documentation proving they are attempting to make income through farming their parcel.
Pennsylvania House of Representatives Gets to Work
Harrisburg – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives met for the first time in six weeks on Tuesday. The House welcomed and swore in three new members elected in a special election period and agreed to a rules package for a special session via a series of party line votes of 102 to 99 with two Republicans absent.
Oil City Man Assaults Man in own Home
Oil City – Demarco Francis of Oil City has been charged with ten crimes including four felonies stemming from an incident that happened just after Valentine’s Day. Francis allegedly kicked down the back door to a home on Oil City’s Fairview Avenue and burst into the house looking for someone; he’s accused of assaulting a 59-year-old man while attempting to get into another room where two women had locked themselves inside with a newborn. He fled the area after police were called and was arrested not far from the crime scene, but only after injuring an Oil City Police Officer. Thomas has been denied bail and resides in Venango County Jail.
Mass Fentanyl Seizure
Pittsburgh – 962 bricks of fentanyl were seized by authorities in Pittsburgh yesterday and two suspected traffickers were taken into custody. The seized drugs were worth at least $288,000; both men were caught with the drugs while debarking from buses that had departed for Pittsburgh from other major cities, one from Philadelphia, the other from New York.
