Man Assaults PA Trooper
Columbus – According to the Pennsylvania State Police based in Corry, a Columbus man was taken into custody after assaulting a State Police Trooper who was responding to a disturbance call on Saturday. The man was unnamed in the police report, but court records reveal the suspect as George Moyer, 48, of Columbus; he has been charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest, as well as summary offenses. He is housed in Warren County Jail after failing to post $50,000 in bail.
LSA Grants in Crawford County
Crawford County – Two Crawford County localities received Local Share Account grants to upgrade their water systems. Springboro was awarded more than $680,000 for improvements to its drinking water filtration systems, while Conneaut Lake was awarded a sum of $200,000 to rehabilitate the sewer system along Sixth Street. The LSA is overseen by the Commonwealth Financing Authority and is funded by taxes on the gambling industry.
Mercyhurst University in National Spotlight for Wrong Reasons
Erie – A hockey player from Mercyhurst University is receiving national attention after a video of him allegedly pushing a woman’s empty wheelchair down a flight of stairs was posted online. Carson Briere is the son of Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Danny Briere; the 23-year-old is suspended from the Mercyhurst team and charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
