Crash Kills One
Mill Creek Township – A Grove City man was killed when he crashed his Dodge Durango on Sandy Lake Road in Mercer County on Friday night. Crash scene investigators report that Donald Cochran (41) was likely driving at a high rate of speed when he was killed by the injuries sustained on Friday night when his truck sheared through a telephone pole and collided with two trees. At about 10 PM Mr. Cochran failed to make a left-hand turn and sheered through the telephone pole and went partially airborne before his truck rolled and then collided with the two trees, one of which smashed the roof of the truck – then the vehicle caught on fire.
Emergency Bridge Closure
Pittsfield Township- PennDOT has ordered an emergency closure of Kane Road Bridge in Warren County. The bridge carries its namesake road over Brokenstraw Creek in Pittsfield Township and is considered too badly deteriorated for safe use. A detour is posted using Cole Hill Road (Route 3013), Old Garland Road (Route 3014), Davey Hill Road (Route 3007), Route 27, and Kane Road (Route 3014). PennDOT will be determining if the bridge can be rehabilitated or needs replacement.
Investigation into RM Palmer Explosion Continues
West Reading – The Pennsylvania State Police and National Transportation Safety Board are still investigating the cause of an explosion that killed seven people at RM Palmer Company in West Reading in March. The Berks County Coroner discovered the cause of death of each of the victims killed in the blast; six died from various traumas directly caused by the explosion while a seventh succumbed to burn injuries.
