Click it or Ticket
Erie – The Pennsylvania State Police will be joining the NHTSA’s “Click It or Ticket” initiative this year with the enforcement period starting on Monday, May 15th, and ending on Sunday, June 4th. Pennsylvania law requires anyone under 18 and all drivers and front seat passengers regardless of age to wear a seatbelt; law enforcement will adopt a zero-tolerance policy to seatbelt usage during the enforcement period. Different departments in Troop E will also be holding free child safety seat checks where certified child seat technicians will help parents learn to use their children’s safety seats appropriately. The Erie station will be holding theirs on Monday, May 22nd at Lake Erie Community Park in Lake City from 3 PM to 7 PM.

Norfolk Southern Train Derails in PA
Newcastle – Another Norfolk Southern train derailed near the Pennsylvania and Ohio Border earlier this week; the train derailed late Wednesday in Lawrence County on the Pennsylvania side. Nine cars of a 231 car train skipped off the tracks near Lawrence Avenue in Newcastle at about 11 PM Wednesday night. Norfolk Southern and the National Transportation Safety Bureau were both quick to inform residents that none of the cars contained hazardous chemicals and removal of the train cars has taken top priority.
