Dems Retain House Majority
Clifton Heights – Following a special election in two districts, the Democratic party will maintain a single seat majority in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Republicans could have gained a slight majority if they had won both elections in the 163rd and 108th Districts, however, the 163rd District went to Democrat Heather Boyd who earned about 60% of the votes; Republican Michael Stendar was elected in the 108th. PA’s 163rd District’s seat became open after the resignation of Representative Michael Zabel after multiple allegations of sexual harassment and the 108th became vacant after Representative Lynda Schlegel Culver was elected to the PA state Senate.
Price Hikes for Fishing Licenses
Harrisburg – Pennsylvania’s Fish and Boating Commission has announced a fee hike for fishing licenses. Starting next year the price will be $26 for a resident license and $85 for non-resident licenses. The price increases of $2.50 and $10.00 are needed by the commission to continue running, as it receives no money from the Pennsylvania General Fund and is instead funded entirely through licenses.
