State Police Release Memorial Day Patrol Statistics
Hershey – The Pennsylvania State Police have released information about the Memorial Day enforcement period. Most of our region is patrolled by Troop E which reported that over the four days of Memorial Day Weekend, the department made 26 arrests for DUI and responded to 45 crashes, of which only four involved drunk drivers; only nine people reported injuries from crashes. However, four people were killed statewide in three deadly accidents, all of which happened in Western Pennsylvania, including a motorcycle crash that claimed two residents of Newcastle.
Statewide, more traffic stops and citations were issued than in 2022, but there were fewer overall crashes and other emergencies than last year. The full report is available here.

Two Children Murdered in Lebanon PA
Lebanon – The City of Lebanon Police Department has announced the arrest of a person of interest in the shooting death of three people, including two children on a playground in the city’s North Side. On Tuesday night, someone opened fire on a group of people killing three and injuring a fourth. Two victims were Jesus and Sebastian Perez-Salome who were only 8 and 9 years old. Joshua Lugo-Perez (19) was also killed, and a 33-year-old man named Louis Cancel was wounded and hospitalized. Investigators believe that one of the two adults was the target.
A GoFundMe campaign to help the family of the two boys hold a memorial service has already exceeded its funding goal.
