State Police in Lawrence County report a fatal accident from Saturday night in Scott Township. According to police 76 year old Gail Newtzie of New Castle was traveling west on Harlansburg Road when she veered into the opposite lane and hit 49 year old Travis Bintrim of New Castle on his motorcycle. Bintrim and a 14 year old passenger where thrown from the motorcycle. Bintrim was taken to UPMC Jameson Hospital where he later died. The 14 year old was taken to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh with serious injuries. Newtzie and a passenger were also taken to UPMC Jameson for treatment.  PSP says the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

A horse has died after a crash involving a car and buggy in Lawrence County.  State Police report  the crash happened on Wilson Mill Road in Wilmington Township around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.  The report states that a 32-year-old man who was operating a horse and buggy was traveling out of a driveway when the buggy was hit by a Toyota Camry driven by a 22-year-old Butler woman. According to the report, the buggy failed to yield to the passing Camry.The horse died as a result of the crash, but no other injuries were reported by police.  The crash remains under investigation, with charges pending against the driver of the buggy.

Governor Josh Shapiro says the collapsed part of Interstate-95 will reopen within two weeks. His comments came Saturday as he toured the site by helicopter with President Joe Biden, who was in Philadelphia for a campaign rally. Shapiro’s pronouncement comes six days after a raised portion of the roadway collapsed from a tanker truck fire underneath. Shapiro says the reopened portion will be built on top of recycled glass fill but will serve only as a temporary fix while work continues on a permanent bridge replacement. President Biden says the federal government will pay for the emergency work on the highway, which is a critical thoroughfare for the Eastern Seaboard.

The State fire marshal is investigating the cause of a fire in Mercer County. WFMJ-TV reports the fire took place early yesterday morning on the 100 block of Shook Road in Sandy Creek Township. The fire started in a garage then spread to a machine shed. Several fire companies were called out to the battle the blaze.  No injuries were reported.

Gas prices are stable this week in Western Pennsylvania.  According to this week’s Triple-A East Central Gas Price Report the average price remains at 3.65 a gallon. In New Castle and Sharon the average price is at 3.50 a gallon.  The national average for a gallon of gas fell two cents since last week to $3.57. That’s $1.41 less than a year ago with 20 gallons of gas costing nearly $30 less than last year.

Representative Tina Davis is targeting third-party ticket-sellers in her new bill in the state House. It would limit the ability of these kind of sellers to acquire and then re-sell concert and sports event tickets at very inflated  prices. Davis, who is a Democrat from Bucks County says fans of Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen have paid for tickets that she says exceed what many people pay for their mortgage. Her bill would limit the number of tickets that a buyer can purchase online and increase the penalties for trying to sell tickets at artificially inflated prices.

Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate declined one-tenth of a percentage point over the month to 4.0% in May, the lowest rate on record . The U.S. unemployment rate rose three-tenths of a percentage point from April to 3.7%. The Commonwealth’s unemployment rate was three-tenths of a percentage point below its May 2022 level, and the national rate was up one-tenth of a point over the year.

State Police in Butler County report a two vehicle accident in Fairview Township. According to police 22 year old Block Bailey of Parker was traveling south on Chicora Road when he steered into the northbound lane and struck a vehicle operated by 62 year old Daniel Rowe of Butler.  Rowe was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.
