Air Quality RED Alert
Erie – A new air quality alert has been issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The alert is a code RED, meaning that the air quality is considered unhealthy for the general population; the DEP recommends avoiding outdoor exercise or strenuous activity if possible and warns that individuals with sensitivities such as asthma may experience more health effects. The air quality alert affects all of Northwestern Pennsylvania and lasts until 2:30 Friday morning. The City of Erie will have the worst air quality in all of PA today.
Trooper Rougeau Laid to Rest
Erie – Fallen Pennsylvania State Police Trooper and Corry native Jacques Rougeau Jr. was honored yesterday at a packed funeral service held in Erie’s Bayfront Convention Center. Jacques, also known as Jay, was honored in person by Governor Josh Shapiro who spoke of the Trooper’s bravery and declared he had a “servant’s heart” and that “in every part of his life, Jay wanted to give back and serve others.” Jacques became that 104th PA State Trooper killed in the line of duty when he came in on his day off to aid in a manhunt for a dangerous shooter.
Cause of Deadly Fire not Discovered
Oil City – The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall could not safely discover the cause and origin of a fire that killed an Oil City man on Sunday morning. According to the press release, the structure was too damaged to safely investigate the interior for signs that indicated a cause or point of origin. Witnesses say that at about 6:30 in the morning on Sunday, a fire started somewhere in the front of the house and spread to the second floor. A 45-year-old man was killed in the fire, and two other people were able to escape with some minor injuries and burns.
