Lawnmower vs Amish Buggy Crash Ends in Injury
Greenville – A Mercer County woman was airlifted to a trauma center yesterday after a collision between a riding lawnmower and an Amish buggy.  The 87-year-old was suspected of suffering serious injuries after she was trapped beneath the mower when she steered it into the road and into the path of the buggy which was being driven by a 12-year-old Amish boy.

Helmets and Hotdogs with Heroes in Meadville
Meadville – Today is the day for Helmets and Hotdogs with Heroes at the Second District Elementary Playground in Meadville. Students in grades K-6 in Crawford Central School District, Seton School, and Crawford Christian Academy are invited to join Meadville City Police and Firefighters for hot dogs from 4 to 6 pm. Participants will get to visit with members of the police and fire departments, learn about bicycle safety, and also get fitted for a free bicycle helmet while supplies last; there will also be giveaways and one lucky child will go home with a brand new bicycle. Helmets and Hotdogs with Heroes is made possible by the partnerships of The City of Meadville, Safe Kids USA, Crawford Central School District, The United Way, Crawford Health Improvement Coalition (CHIC), and Emigs Bicycle Shop.

Woman Killed by SUV
Meadville – A Meadville woman was killed in a fiery crash on Saturday evening. According to witnesses and investigators, on Route 98 in Crawford County’s Hayfield Township Rebecca Doughty was hit head-on by an SUV attempting to overtake another vehicle in a no passing zone. She was pronounced dead on the scene after being extricated from her vehicle. Chaz Miller of Conneaut Lake, the driver of the SUV, escaped from his vehicle with only minor injuries after it rolled down an embankment and caught fire. At press time authorities had not mentioned any criminal charges.

New Committee Assignment for Rep. Wentling
Hermitage – State Representative Parke Wentling, who represents part of Mercer County, has been selected to serve on Pennsylvania’s Environmental Resources and Energy Committee. Rep. Wentling is involved in other environment related activities in the house, he serves as co-chair of the Cycling and Trails Caucus, was on the Joint Legislative Conservation Committee, and is Republican vice chair on the Game and Fisheries committee.
