State Rep Seeks New Funding for Schools

Harrisburg – In State News, Representative Jason Ortitay, a Republican from Washington and Allegheny Counties, has proposed legislation he says would reduce property taxes. Rep Ortitay’s proposal would allow school districts to reduce property taxes by getting funds through different means such as earned income or mercantile taxes. More than half of all funding for public schools comes from property taxes on landowners in the district. Ortitay says his proposal is more equitable than current laws.
