License Plate Legibility Event in Meadville
Meadville – If you live in or near Meadville and have a damaged, peeling, or discolored license plate, you can get it checked by Meadville City Police Sergeant Trenga today. A free license plate reading event is taking place today outside AAA in the Park Avenue Plaza in Meadville from 11 AM to 2 PM.  If your license plate is deemed illegible by the sergeant then the helpful staff at AAA will help you file paperwork for a cost free replacement of your damaged plates. This event is free for both the general public and AAA members and registration for the event is on site.

2023 Crawford Gives
Meadville – Crawford Gives begins this Sunday and will run until Tuesday, August 29th. Funeral for Firefighter
North East – Shawn Giles, a 53-year-old volunteer firefighter from Fuller Hose Company will be buried today after he was killed at the scene of a minor traffic accident on Sunday. Shawn was redirecting traffic away from the crash when he was hit by a driver going over the speed limit. Both the visitation and the funeral will be held at Gravel Pit Park in North East; visitation is from 1 to 4 PM and the funeral begins at 4 o’clock. Flags across the commonwealth buildings that have been flown at half-staff all week to mourn Shawn’s death will be returned to full staff tomorrow. Dawann Simmons of Erie has been charged with homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, and several summary offenses for the accident that took Shawn’s life.

Feds not Investigating Explosion
Plumb – The National Transportation Safety Board will not be investigating the explosion that killed six people and destroyed three houses outside of Pittsburgh. The NTSB investigates explosions that may be caused by natural gas pipelines, but evidence suggests the explosion on Rustic Ridge in Plum came from inside the house which is outside their jurisdiction. The investigation will remain in the hands of local and state authorities.
