Police Stand-Off Ends in Arrest
Mercer – A more than seven-hour police siege in the north side of Mercer, fortunately, ended without casualties last night with the arrest of a 63-year-old man. Robert Suchy without any apparent provocation attempted to force a neighbor to leave their home with him at gunpoint shortly before noon yesterday. After the neighbor retreated farther into the house and called 911 Suchy left and barricaded himself in his own home at 19 Triplewood Drive, which soon became surrounded by police officers who evacuated other nearby neighbors, shut down the main roads leading in, and waited for a SERT team. The SERT team entered Suchy’s home and arrested him by 7 PM without reporting the use of weaponry. Police found numerous loaded firearms throughout the Suchy house and a spokesperson told reporters that Suchy had no prior criminal history and they believe mental health played a role in the incident. Robert Suchy has been charged with kidnapping, burglary, assault, and may face others. Court records do not show a scheduled arraignment, but they indicate today is his birthday.
