Crash Leads to DUI Arrest
Riceville – A 46-year-old Corry woman will be charged with DUI after she crashed her SUV in Crawford County. Witnesses had called to report an erratic driver in a white SUV on Route 77 near Riceville; when officers from the Corry State Police found the SUV it was stuck in a ditch at the intersection of Routes 77 and 8 in Bloomfield Township.
Applefest 40
Franklin – The City of Franklin begins celebrating its 40th Applefest today. The celebration takes place from 10 AM to 6 PM rain or shine and includes hundreds of attractions such as vendors, live entertainment, and everything downtown Franklin has to offer. Applefest runs from today until the end of Sunday, so there is plenty of time to visit beautiful downtown Franklin for Applefest.
Blackbaud Settlement Reached
Harrisburg – Yesterday Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Michelle Henry announced she and Attorneys General from every state in the nation reached a $49.5 million settlement with the data management company Blackbaud for failing to inform customers about a major data breach in 2020. As part of the settlement, Blackbaud will be required to upgrade its security and create new procedures subject to the oversight of the state governments. Blackbaud customers in Pennsylvania should receive about $1.4 million in total compensation.
One Injured in Crash
Townville – A Guys Mills man was hospitalized after a rollover crash near Townville last Saturday. First responders say that Clarence Morton (80) had to be extracted from his pickup truck by members of the Venango and Cambridge Springs Volunteer Fire Departments after he rolled it near state game lands about noon-thirty. He was taken to UPMC Hospital. The accident is being blamed on driving at unsafe speeds and investigators say his vehicle traveled for almost 500 feet after its initial impact with a ditch.
Xylazine Possession to be Criminalized
Harrisburg – Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives approved a bill criminalizing the possession of Xylazine. Xylazine is a prescription sedative approved by the FDA for use on animals which has begun to see use as a recreational drug. Xylazine has also been found as an additive to illicit substances similar to how fentanyl has been used. Deaths from overdoses of the drug have risen astronomically since 2015 and it is now present in 7% of all overdose deaths nationwide. The bill was approved by a margin of 169 to 34.
