Man Charged for Sexual Assault of a Minor
Harborcreek – An employee at Harborcreek Youth Services was charged with institutional sexual assault last week after allegedly having sexual contact with a minor on the premises. Shaquon Thrower of Erie has also been charged with corruption of minors, indecent assault, and endangering the welfare of children. According to a press release by the Pennsylvania State Police on Monday, it is alleged that the incident took place in the TV room at the facility. Thrower, who was also contracted as a truancy officer, turned himself in on Friday afternoon after charges were filed against him.

Pennie Open Enrollment Extension
Harrisburg – Pennsylvania’s insurance commission announced an extension for Pennie’s open enrollment period until Friday, January 19th. Pennie is Pennsylvania’s own insurance exchange that helps find health insurance coverage for residents of the Commonwealth. The initial cut-off date was Monday, January 15th. Open enrollment is the only time anyone can shop for policies on the marketplace, the rest of the year is only open for people having a qualifying life event such as losing a job. Food Bank Changes Name
Sharon – The Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County has undergone a change of name. The food warehouse now goes by the snappier name of Mercer County Food Bank, a name that according to Executive Director Rebecca Page better reflects the work they do in the county. The food bank is headquartered in Sharon and is partnered with Feeding America, the largest hunger relief organization in the United States. Oil City Hires New Main Street Program Manager
Oil City – After a vacancy that lasted almost six months, Oil City Main Street Program has announced the hiring of a new manager. Stevette Rosen will take over her new position on Tuesday the 16th and has a background and qualifications that include the Clarion and Punxsutawney Chambers of Commerce and fundraising for the Make-a-Wish and the Salvation Army; she was most recently the General Manager of a radio station in Punxsutawney. Oil City Main Street Program is entering its 23rd year of operations, it oversees the revitalization and beautification of Oil City’s Business District.

Woman Steals $1,000 of Lottery Tickets
New Castle – A Lawrence County Woman has been charged with the theft of over $1,000 of lottery tickets from the convenience store she worked in. The Pennsylvania State Police say a woman named Traci Dornan was caught on security footage taking the tickets when she left work at a Speedway in New Castle just before Christmas Eve. When confronted about the footage by a manager she denied taking the tickets. After reviewing the footage police charged her with retail theft, theft, and receiving stolen property – the stolen tickets had a total of over $3,000 in winnings.
