Man Not Guilty for Attempted Homicide of Police
Grove City 0 On Friday, a jury decided that a Grove City man was not guilty of attempted murder against a police officer. The jury did however convict 60-year-old John Barlow Junior of two of five assault charges, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, and other crimes. In March of 2022, Barlow led State Troopers on a chase as they attempted to serve an arrest warrant against him, during that chase he drove his truck toward an officer on foot who was forced to shoot at him. Barlow will be sentenced on March 29th.

LIHEAP Pauses Cash Payments
Harrisburg – Faced with a federal funding shortfall of $21 million for LIHEAP, Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Human Services Val Arkoosh has ceased cash payments for the time being. According to Secretary Arkoosh in a recent press release, the Commonwealth will continue to pay crisis grants through LIHEAP but will halt paying cash until they receive their funding from the United States Congress. PA’s LIHEAP program will still accept and process all applications and continue to run until its cutoff date on Friday, April 5th. PA LIHEAP is short on funds while waiting for the US Congress to approve the Health and Human Services budget for 2024.

Oil Religious Services Terminated at St. Stephen
Oil City – The Catholic Church will end religious services at St. Stephen’s Church in Oil City. Citing the nearly 120-year-old church’s deteriorating condition, the Diocese of Erie has decided that religious worship services will not be taking place within St. Stephen’s though it may possibly be used for other reasons. Last September the diocese ended Sunday masses in the church and it was cited by Oil City Code Enforcement in January because of stones falling off the facade of the building. The church is in serious need of repair and the diocese estimates it will require about $3.5 million to get the building into shape.

Man Charged in Stabbing
Butler – A man has been arrested in connection to a stabbing that happened on Friday evening. 42-year-old Marcus Roman of Lyndora has been charged with multiple crimes for the stabbing of a 21-year-old man whose name is being protected by authorities. Roman is charged with attempted voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault with a weapon, reckless endangerment, harassment, and other crimes in connection with the stabbing. Roman has a criminal history which includes the robbery of a woman’s purse outside her home in 2020.
