Local Sports Star Goes Big Time
New Orleans – The NFL franchise, New Orleans Saints, has taken a chance on a local boy and signed Kyle Sheets to a priority free agent contract to play for their team. Kyle grew up in the Crawford County town of Springboro and attended Conneaut Area High School where he became a standout athlete for the Eagles football program. After graduation, he attended Slippery Rock University and played for The Rock where he earned high honors including being named to all five All-American teams at the District 2 level in 2023. The Saints reported the signing of Kyle Sheets to their roster within an hour of the final round in the NFL draft.
Bull Kills Farmer
Jackson Center – In Mercer County, a man was killed by a bull last Monday. The office of Mercer County Coroner John Libonati confirmed that 51-year-old Richard Joy of Jackson Center died after suffering injuries caused by a bull in his pasture. At about 11:30 on the night of Monday, April 23rd coroners and police responded to the scene at Mr. Joy’s farm where it was found that he was killed by blunt force trauma. Cattle are responsible for an average of 21 deaths of farmers per year in the United States according to a recent study published by the Journal of Forensic Science, Medicine, and Pathology, bulls account for fewer fatal injuries than cows.
False Bomb Threats Against Crawford County Courthouse
Meadville – A man has been arrested for allegedly calling in a bomb threat against the Crawford County Judicial Center on Monday. 40-year-old Douglas McClure of Meadville is accused of calling in a bomb threat that closed the Judicial Center for 90 minutes while deputies for the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department searched the building. According to records, McClure was scheduled to appear in court on drug charges Monday morning, but according to authorities he failed to appear and created a false bomb threat instead. He was arraigned on felony charges for terroristic threats on Tuesday. The Judicial Center was built to expand the facilities in Crawford County’s aged courthouse.
Man Charged for Raping Unconscious Woman
Grove City – A Grove City man has been remanded to Mercer County Jail on $100,000 secured bond for the alleged rape of an unconscious woman 6 years ago. The Pennsylvania State Police claim they have video evidence of 30-year-old Rory Donaldson forcing himself on an unconscious woman on December 9th, 2018. As a result of this evidence, Donaldson has been charged with multiple crimes including involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, rape, sexual assault, and aggravated indecent assault – all of an unconscious person.
Reported Carjacking in Rural Lawrence County
Edinburg – In Lawrence County, the Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a reported carjacking on Tuesday night. Kaden Lippert of Warren Ohio contacted the State Police in New Castle to tell them that he had had his car stolen at gunpoint just outside of Edinburg shortly before midnight on April 30th. The stolen vehicle is a dark blue 2021 Mazda 3 last seen traveling eastbound on Route 224 in Mahoning Township, its Ohio license plate number is KGR2098. An investigation is ongoing.
