Crash Kills Man in Crawford County
Conneautville – One man died and two others were hospitalized as the result of a Friday evening crash in Crawford County. Crash scene investigators say that soon after 5:30 p.m. a 43-year-old woman was traveling south on State Route 98 through Hayfield Township when she drifted into the opposing lane and collided head-on with another vehicle. An 81-year-old man was killed in the collision and his passenger was transported by ambulance to UPMC Hamot in Erie; the female driver was airlifted to UPMC.

Game Commission Director Resigned
Harrisburg – Last Monday, the director of the Pennsylvania Game Commission resigned after coming under scrutiny for a series of business dealings he had with employees of the Game Commission. Bryan Burhans, who had spent about 7 years at the head of the agency, was succeeded by Deputy Director Stephen Smith who has been with the agency for 16 years. The Commission’s Board did not suggest that Burhans’s business dealings involved any ethical issues, but were concerned about the appropriateness of the director’s business relationship with employees.

Shenango Valley Mall Closure Eminient
Hermitage – The City of Hermitage is going to be saying goodbye to the Shenango Valley Mall in only about 4 weeks. The mall officially closes on Friday, May 31st, and has only played home to about a dozen stores over the last few years, leaving it mostly empty. After the end of the month closure, the mall is scheduled for demolition before the end of the year.  The boro plans to redevelop the space to allow new restaurants and stores while also creating a new space for food trucks and a night market.

Street Racer Injures Self, Four Teens
Erie – Police in Erie are blaming street racing for a Thursday night crash that hospitalized five people. At about 9:30 p.m. on East 38th Street a driver in a Tesla collided with a car full of teenagers who were attempting to make a legal turn onto Old French Road. The Tesla driver and all four teenagers were hospitalized with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries; the vehicle the Tesla was racing drove away from the scene and police are still searching for the other racer. Moraine School Principle on Leave
Prospect – The superintendent of Butler County’s Slippery Rock School District announced that the Principal of Moraine Elementary School in Prospect was on leave. Alfonso Angelucci confirmed that Principle Kristie Shulsky was placed on leave as of Tuesday, April 30th. Superintendent Angelucci did not comment as to how long this period of leave would last, why she was on leave, or if she would be back. Principal duties at Moraine Elementary will be administered by the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent in the interim.
