Gas Prices Increase Ahead of Summer Travel
Pennsylvania residents will pay slightly more than the national average for gasoline if they fill their tanks at home before traveling. The average price for a gallon of gasoline in PA is $3.78 this Memorial Day Weekend, 17 cents more than the national average of $3.61. The most expensive gasoline is in California at $5.15. Gasoline prices increase in summer for a variety of reasons, the primary being an increase in demand as more people take longer journeys in their cars throughout the summer, the other main reason is that manufacturers switch to producing a more expensive summer mix of gasoline that is less prone to evaporation.
