NTSB Reveals Cause of Explosion
Youngstown, OH – The National Transportation Safety Board and Ohio Fire Marshall have pinpointed the cause of an explosion at the Realty Building in Youngstown Ohio last week. On Friday night the NTSB announced that the cause of the explosion was an outdated natural gas line that was still pressurized when construction workers began to remove it. Contractors working for the city cut into the line, which should have been depressurized, and when they realized there was a leak, they set off a fire alarm and evacuated the building. Investigators are now focusing on discovering why the pipe was still pressurized and how people on the first floor did not hear the alarm. An employee of the bank on the first floor was killed and seven others suffered injuries.
