Motorcycle Hits Car
Greenville – Two people were hospitalized when their touring motorcycle crashed into the back of a car near Greenville over the weekend. On late Saturday afternoon, a man and woman were hospitalized with injuries when they collided with a Ford Fiesta at the intersection of East Jamestown and Porter Roads in West Salem Township. The Fiesta was making a left turn at the intersection when the cycle with two riders hit the vehicle. A 59-year-old man was taken to UPMC Horizon in Greenville while a 63-year-old woman was transported to St. Elizabeth.
One Injured in Construction Accident
Erie – A construction accident left one worker seriously injured in the City of Erie. At about 4:30 Tuesday afternoon an excavator fell into a hole while crews worked on the major construction project at the Bayfront Parkway. At press time the victim’s identity was not revealed, but the Project Manager Jason Booher said he worked for a subcontracted company named Wilson Construction and that an investigation was underway.
Meet and Greet Author Todd Bromley
Franklin – The Franklin Public Library is holding a meet and greet with local author Todd Bromley, writer of the true crime novel Depravity in the Dark. Depravity in the Dark details the real-life 1968 abduction and torment of four Slippery Rock University Students from a restaurant in Jackson Center, one of the largest manhunts in state history, and all the other details about what the Sharon Herald called “The Most Memorable Night of Terror in Pennsylvania’s History”. Bromley has contributed over 200 magazine articles and now three novels; he will be at Franklin Public Library tonight from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to sign books and talk with library patrons.
Document Shredding Event in New Castle
New Castle – State Representative Marla Brown, who represents Pennsylvania’s 9th district in Lawrence County, is hosting a free document shredding event at 28 North Mill Street in New Castle this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is an opportunity for residents of the area to safely dispose of their secure documents that they no longer need, like things with bank account, credit card, and Social Security numbers, that can be used for fraudulent purposes in the wrong hands. Participants are asked to please only bring sensitive documents and to recycle or dispose of magazines, cards, letters, newspapers, and junk mail at home.
Turnpike Commission Removing Tollbooths
Harrisburg – In State News, toll booths are expected to be a thing of the past on Pennsylvania’s turnpikes. Over the next three years, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is committed to replacing every toll booth with an Open Road Tolling system that will automatically bill travelers on the turnpike as they get on and off the roadway. The system is touted as reducing travel times and CO2 emissions and increasing the convenience of travel.
