Three Injured in Crash
Wattsburg – A Wednesday evening crash in Erie County’s Venango Township hospitalized three people. Two SUVs collided head-on at about 7 p.m. on Route 8 and both suffered heavy damage. One person was airlifted from the scene of the crash and it has been reported that two others had to be mechanically extricated from their vehicle by firefighters before they were transported from the scene by ambulance. The crash is still being investigated by authorities and details about the incident are currently scarce.
Man Charged with Child Murder
New Castle – More than a year after it happened, a New Castle man has been charged with homicide in relation to the January 2023 death of his girlfriend’s baby. 21-year-old Isais Robles Nieves was arrested on Tuesday and charged with child abuse, child endangerment, and homicide for the January 19, 2023 death of one-year-old Noah Santiago. Noah was hospitalized in 2023 after Robles Nieves called 911 to report the baby was choking and he died soon after; an 18-month-long investigation showed that the baby had been hospitalized two prior times while under the supervision of Robles Nieves and Noah’s cause of death was blunt force trauma. Robles Nieves has been denied bail.
Human Remains Discovered in Lake
Clark – An investigation is underway after partial human remains were discovered in Shenango River Reservoir near the Golden Run Wildlife Area on Tuesday night. On Wednesday search and rescue crews were dispatched to the lake to search for further remains. At press time the Mercer County Coroner’s Office had not elaborated on what remains had been recovered but we do know that they will be subject to forensic testing to determine an identity and cause of death. This is a developing story and an investigation is ongoing.
