More than Two Dozen Charges for Carjacking Suspect
Erie – 18-year-old Denali Kirkland was arraigned on 26 charges including 19 felonies while in a bed at UPMC Hamot. Charges stem from a shootout with Erie Police Officers near the Celebrate Erie stage on Friday. Kirkland is accused of a 4 a.m. carjacking on Broadstreet Friday morning, and then leading officers on a chase that ended when Kirkland collided with a fence near the Celebrate Erie Stage. It’s alleged that when he couldn’t flee he fired on police officers who injured him with return fire. The State Police have taken over the investigation.
State News: Police Chief Investigated by State
Arnold – The Chief of Police in a Westmoreland County town has been suspended while he is investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police and Attorney General. On Friday, Mayor Shannon Santucci of Arnold Pennsylvania put their Chief of Police, Josh Stanga, on administrative leave while state authorities investigate criminal complaints made against him. The Pennsylvania State Police and Attorney General’s office have not revealed the nature of their investigation at this time. Chief Stanga has served in several departments over the course of 12 years.
Man Charged for Own Near-Fatal Crash
Saxonburg – A Butler County man has been charged with careless driving after he was hospitalized as a result of a crash. 32-year-old Mark Hill of New Kensington was airlifted to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh after he had to be cut out of his Mazda CX-5 when he crashed into a creekbed in Saxonburg. Several Witnesses told the Pennsylvania State Police that on the afternoon of Thursday, August 15th, Hill was driving well beyond the speed limit and passing other vehicles in a no-passing zone when he lost control of his vehicle.
