36-year-old Erie Murder Case Closed
Erie – Tuesday marked the final chapter of one of Pennsylvania’s oldest cold cases as 57-year-old Jeremy Brock received a life sentence for the 1988 murder of his own grandmother, Helen Vogt, in Erie County Court. Brock was arrested in 2022, 34 years after the crime, when cold case detectives had new tests run on DNA from blood found at the scene. On July 24th nearly 36 years to the day of the killing, he was convicted of homicide by a jury based on the DNA evidence and testimony from his sister. Jeremy Brock was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole plus an additional 8-16 years for other crimes.
Brock stabbed his grandmother Helen more than 50 times during his murderous attack on her in her home on Zimmerman Road in 1988. He tearfully defended his innocence after the sentence was passed down early Tuesday morning.
Moving Van Explode
McKean County – In State News, the Pennsylvania State Police are investigating why a U-Haul truck exploded in Mckean County. The truck was parked in a driveway in Lafayette Township, filled with personal belongings, when it exploded in the pre-dawn hours of Sunday morning, destroying the truck and causing undetermined damage to a house and garage. At press time a cause for the explosion has still not been determined by police.
