More than Two Dozen Fire Companies Respond to Incident at Lumber Mill
Emlenton – 25 fire departments from four different counties were summoned to fight a fire at a lumberyard in Emlenton on Saturday. According to Venango County 9-1-1 fire departments from Venango, Mercer, Butler, and Clarion Counties all devoted resources to fighting a fire that erupted from a machine inside a steel building at Hickman Lumber in Venango County around 3:30 p.m. Firefighters had to cut out part of a wall of the steel structure in order to train hoses on the fire which lasted about four hours. Fire marshalls are investigating the cause of the fire and no injuries were reported.

PA High Court Squashes Impeachment of Philly DA
Harrisburg – Last week, Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court ruled in a 3-1 decision that the PA Legislature could not continue proceeding with their 2022 impeachment of Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner. Their decision was entirely along procedural grounds, stating that the Commonwealth Constitution does not allow subsequent General Assemblies to act on matters unresolved by the previous one; as a result, the articles of impeachment filed against Krasner were null and void at the end of the legislative session in 2022. Many of the legislators who voted to impeach Krasner were themselves not re-elected for terms in the 2022-2024 General Assembly.
Republicans say his decision does not address the ‘substantive allegations’ they claim he was impeached for. Rep. Tim Bonner of Mercer and Butler Counties, one of the Impeachment Managers, said he was “Disapointed today that we did not learn if the Supreme Court believes the misbehavior in office meets the constitutional standard [for impeachment].”
The seven articles of impeachment passed on party lines by Republicans in 2022 allege that Krasner, who has never been charged with a crime or sanctioned by a court, obstructed an investigation into his activities by failing to provide records about ongoing criminal prosecutions, neglected his duty by declining to prosecute certain misdemeanor cases, and not enforcing bail among others.
