Fill the Boot
Meadville – Join the Meadville Fire Department for their annual Fill the Boot fundraiser to benefit the Special Olympics. From 8 am to 3 pm today firefighters will be collecting donations for the Special Olympics in front of the fire station, near the intersection of Park Avenue and North Street; all you need to do is pull up and drop a few dollars into a firefighter’s boot. Meadville’s Fire Department is also collecting donations of supplies to deliver to victims of Hurricane Helene, speak with a fireman for details.
Voter Registration and Mail-In Ballot Deadlines Loom
Harrisburg – If you are not registered to vote in Pennsylvania and wish to participate in the 2024 Presidential Election on November 5th, there are less than two weeks left to register. Pennsylvania law requires that voter registration be submitted 15 days ahead of an election, this year, on Monday, October 21st. To register to vote you must be a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for at least 30 days prior to registration and will need to provide a Pennsylvania Driver’s License, PennDOT ID Card, or Social Security number as well as proof of address or homeless status. If you have recently moved to a new location you must update your registration to reflect your new address. Anyone who wishes to vote by mail must have their request filed on Monday, October 28th.
Murder-Suicide in Mercer County
Greenville – The names of two men who died after a murder-suicide have been released by authorities in Mercer County. Investigators from the Pennsylvania State Police and Greenville Police Department say that on Sunday Night or Monday morning, 51-year-old David C. Frew of Sharpsville shot his father David E. Frew, 92, of West Salem Township in the head killing him. Later, on Monday morning the younger Frew took his own life but lingered long enough to be transported to UPMC Horizon in Greenville before he was declared dead. The elder David’s death is ruled a homicide, while the younger is ruled a suicide.
Fatal Motorcycle Crash
Erie – A motorcycle accident claimed the life of an Erie man over the weekend. 54-year-old Frederick Feathers was killed when an SUV pulled out in front of him while he was traveling north at the Bayfront Connector in Erie County’s Haborcreek Township. Police say that shortly after 8:00 p.m. he collided with the SUV as its driver attempted a left turn off Shannon Road. Mr. Feathers was declared dead at UPMC Hamot after being transported from the scene by ambulance. So far, no public court records are connected to this case and the other driver remains anonymous.
