Winter Storm Watch Issued in Erie Amongst Snow Cleanup
Erie – The City of Erie is still dealing with the aftermath of winter’s first snowfall and is now under another winter storm watch issued by the National Weather Service. Erie County is still struggling to deal with the aftermath of snowfall totals between four and six feet that it received in late November and early December. As the snow is melting due to much higher temperatures the area is dealing with ice jams blocking storm drains and other issues that are causing meltwater to flood regions. There are also dozens of reports of structural damage such as collapsed roofs and at least one Lake Erie houseboat that has sunk because it was weighed down by snow.
On Monday, NWS issued a new Winter Storm Watch about the potential for another round of Lake Effect Snow from Wednesday night into Friday morning. A watch means that NWS has discovered that the potential for another lake effect snow event exists but has not yet materialized.
