Lake Effect Snow Hits Region Again
NWPA – A Lake Effect Snow Warning for Crawford, Warren, and Erie counties was issued by the National Weather Service starting at 7 a.m. on New Year’s Day and will remain in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday night. The snowstorm has deposited several inches of snowfall in Crawford, Erie, and Warren Counties overnight leading to multiple delays in the start of school classes this morning; check with your local school district or visit Operation Weather Alert for details. PennDOT has restricted the speed limits on both lanes of Interstate 79 north of Edinboro, and the entire lengths of Interstates 86 and 90 through Erie County to 45 miles per hour; slippery conditions may affect travel on all roads across the region.

Hospital Closure Averted
Sharon – On New Year’s Day it was announced that Sharon Regional Hospital may remain open under new management. Hospital Board President Bob Rogalksi alerted media outlets on New Year’s Day that an agreement in principle was tentatively reached between Medical Properties Trust and Tenor Health Partners to keep the hospital running until a buyer can be found. The agreement must be reviewed by the Bankruptcy Court before it can be finalized. Other prospective buyers for the hospital have surfaced since the failure to reach a settlement with Meadville Medical Center.
