Man Charged with Mother’s Murder
Erie – Aggravated assault charges against 40-year-old Chad Walburn of Erie were upgraded to charges of first-degree homicide last week, he is accused of killing his mother Phyllis Walburn in October of last year. In 2024 Walburn was charged with aggravated assault for allegedly turning off and then forcibly removing the machine that provided oxygen for his bedridden mother and then dousing her with water in a presumed attempt to drown her. She died on Halloween and homicide charges were delayed while a thorough investigation was completed. According to authorities Walburn admitted to taking his mother off of her ventilator on October 24th, 2024, and described how he dumped cold water on her multiple times with a bedside garbage can. He said he felt she needed to die after years of illness. Investigators and prosecutors wanted to comb through evidence thoroughly before charging Walburn for the murder.
