Man Killed by Flying Pickup Truck
New Castle – A Mercer County man was killed in a freak accident while traveling on Interstate 376 in Lawrence County. 41-year-old Niel Plummer of Greenville was killed on Tuesday morning when a pickup truck in the opposite lane lost control, hit the median, went airborne, and landed on the driver’s side of his work van. The driver of the truck, 26-year-old Reina Smith was airlifted from the crash scene to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital; investigators say she has been charged with careless driving, but no other charges will be filed until the investigation is completed. It’s unclear if police are considering the road conditions to be a factor in the crash.
Lake Effect Snow Warning Cancelled
Cleveland, OH – The National Weather Service sounded all clear on a Lake Effect Snow Warning and a Winter Weather Advisory that were supposed to last until this afternoon after a shift in weather conditions. PennDOT, likewise, removed speed limit restrictions placed on Interstates 79 and 90. On Tuesday the National Weather Service predicted up to 8 inches of snow would fall in parts of Crawford and Erie County with up to 4 inches falling in surrounding counties, but after a shift in the air currents, that snowfall didn’t materialize. The warnings were lifted on Wednesday evening after only light and moderate amounts of snowfall.
