Meadville 1825 Kickoff on Saturday
Meadville – Meadville 1825 is a year-long celebration of the bicentennial of one of the most significant years in the history of the City of Meadville. The frontier days were over and the 25th year of the 19th century saw the founding of the city’s three oldest religious congregations; the newspaper was known as the Weekly Messenger; the foundations for Crawford County’s first brick-and-mortar courthouse were laid; abolitionists such as John Brown came to town to assist the underground railroad; General Lafayette, the French nobleman who joined the patriot cause during the Revolution visited the city; and so much more was happening. Meadville 1825 is celebrating this rich history with a series of 25 history-themed events highlighting what life was like for residents of Crawford County in that pivotal year of the city’s rich history. Meadville 1825 is inviting everyone to join them for their grand opening at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon in the Unitarian Universalist Church on Chestnut Street. The grand opening will be proceeded by the inaugural events!
